The club was founded in 1959. The club home games wereheld at the stadium of Tarners Cross, which seats 7,485 spectators. During the total years of its existence Cork Celtic once won the championship twice and went into the Irish Cup final. The club was considered as a major contender of Cork Hibernians. In the late 70′s Cork Celtic took up the practice of signing short-term contracts with experienced stars of football, particularly the club played a few games with such legends as George Best, Geoff Hurst and Uwe Seeler. Practice of bringing the legends of football did not bring success, and in 1979, being the last in the league of Ireland the club ceased to exist.
